Los Angeles Small Business Bookkeeping & Tax Preparation
Running a small business in West Adams, Mid-City or elsewhere in Los Angeles means juggling customers, staff and California paperwork at the same time. The Tax Clinic helps owner-operated businesses keep organized books, prepare accurate business returns and keep track of state and city requirements, all remotely.
We serve Los Angeles clients remotely only, by phone, text, email and video. We don't have a Los Angeles office, so there's no need to drive anywhere or take time away from your business.

City of Los Angeles Business Tax Renewals
We prepare and file annual City of Los Angeles business tax renewals for clients. What applies, what documentation you'll need and our fee depend on your business's situation.
Individual Returns for Business Owners
Your personal return, coordinated with your business return.
Coordinated Books, Payroll and Tax Returns
Many small business owners use one company for bookkeeping, another for payroll and someone else at tax time. We keep your books, prepare your returns and coordinate with your payroll provider to help catch discrepancies early and keep records consistent. That matters most for S-corporations, where owner wages, payroll filings and the business return need to agree.
- Monthly books that are organized well before tax season
- S-corp owner wages coordinated with payroll and reflected on the 1120-S and K-1s
- State and city requirements tracked alongside your books and returns

California and Los Angeles Business Tax Overview
This is a general overview, not personalized tax advice. Your requirements depend on your entity, classification and activities, and we'll review your situation during your free consultation.
- City of Los Angeles business tax: businesses operating in the City generally must register for a Business Tax Registration Certificate (BTRC) and file annual renewals, which are due by the last day of February. Some businesses with smaller gross receipts may qualify for a small business exemption, which requires filing the renewal on time; eligibility isn't automatic. We prepare and file renewals for clients.
- California LLCs: depending on how the LLC is classified and its California income, an LLC may owe an annual LLC tax, an additional LLC fee and Form 568 filing requirements.
- California corporations and S-corporations: corporations, including S-corporations, are generally subject to California's minimum franchise tax. S-corporations also owe a 1.5% tax on California net income when that exceeds the minimum.
- Sales and use tax: businesses selling taxable goods may need a CDTFA seller's permit and regular sales tax returns.
- Payroll: employers have federal and California EDD payroll reporting requirements throughout the year.
